About Data.mn
Data.mn is an open data platform created by Robert Ritz at the American University of Mongolia. Our mission is to make Mongolian government data more accessible and useful for the public, researchers, journalists, and businesses.
Mongolia's government agencies publish valuable statistics on everything from population demographics to economic indicators. However, this data is often difficult to find, hard to use, or buried in PDF reports. Data.mn solves this by collecting, cleaning, and presenting this information in user-friendly formats with interactive visualizations and downloadable datasets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Data.mn
Is this official government data?
Data.mn is not a government website. We aggregate and republish data from official Mongolian government sources like the National Statistics Office (1212.mn) and Bank of Mongolia. We always cite our sources and link to the original data. Think of us as a more user-friendly way to access public government statistics.
Can I use this data for my research or business?
Yes! All data on Data.mn is free to use for any purpose, including academic research, journalism, business analysis, and personal projects. We encourage you to cite Data.mn and the original government source when publishing.
How do I cite data from Data.mn?
For academic citations, include both Data.mn and the original source. Example: "Population of Mongolia (2024). Data.mn, sourced from National Statistics Office of Mongolia." Each dataset page shows the specific source to cite.
How often is the data updated?
Update frequency depends on the source. Most economic and demographic data is updated quarterly when new government releases are available. Some datasets like exchange rates may update more frequently. Each dataset page shows when it was last updated.
How can I contribute or report an error?
We welcome feedback! If you find an error, have a suggestion for new datasets, or want to collaborate, please contact us at [email protected]. We're especially interested in hearing from researchers and journalists about what data would be most useful.
