Mongolia's GDP Growth Bounces Back (1990-2025)
After the COVID-era contraction of 2020, Mongolia's economy has posted four straight years of solid growth, reaching 6.8% in 2025.

Mongolia’s economy has always moved in sharp swings — from the post-Soviet collapse of the early 1990s to double-digit mining booms and pandemic-era contraction. The latest data shows the recovery firmly on track.
Mongolia GDP Growth Rate (1990-2025)
Three decades of volatility
The chart tells the story in three acts. The early 1990s transition years were brutal: GDP shrank 9.3% in 1992 alone as Soviet support vanished. Growth then stabilized through the 2000s and 2010s, punctuated by commodity cycles.
The pandemic delivered the sharpest single-year shock since the transition, with a 4.6% contraction in 2020. But the rebound was quick — positive again by 2021.
Four years of steady growth
Since 2022, growth has held above 5% every year, peaking at 7.4% in 2023 before settling at an estimated 6.8% in 2025. That consistency is unusual by Mongolia’s historical standards and suggests the economy has diversified somewhat beyond its old boom-bust mining pattern.
